Dickens' A Christmas Carol

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol

This is a 60 minute adaptation of the famous Christmas story, delivered by a Victorian gentleman who is a great friend of Charles Dickens.

Dickens was born in 1812 and grew up in poverty, thanks to his father. But his poor beginnings did not hold him back and when he died in 1870 he was buried in Poets'Corner in Westminster Abbey.

Greedy, grasping Ebeneezer Scrooge is visited on Christmas Eve by the ghost of his dead partner, Jacob Marley. Jacob regrets the error of his ways when he was alive and seeks to rescue Scrooge from his fate. To do so, he arranges for Scrooge to be visited by 3 Spirits - the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come.

The Spirits show Scrooge the joy of Christmas and the wretchedness of his own existence. Inspired and chastened by what he sees, Scrooge resolves to change, and from then on he embraces the true spirit of Christmas.

As Tiny Tim says, "God bless us, everyone".

A few lines to thank you for your wonderful rendition of A Christmas Carol this afternoon.  There were times I wanted to laugh out loud, but was afraid to break the spell you had cast over us.  None of us had been to anything like it, just perfect for a December meeting.  The ladies would love to have you back, as we know you deliver other talks, so I will certainly be in touch in the future - Nancy Calderbank, Great Ashfield & Badwell Ash WI.
