The Medieval World presenter will be in authentic costume and provide a living history talk about:
The work of a Barber Surgeon
Medieval surgery was something of a risky occupation - more for the patient than the surgeon fortunately!
Hear about the blood-curdling techniques of a barber surgeon and see the tools of his trade. Learn about the Black Death and how the wounds of battle were treated, including amputation. Discover how teeth were pulled, bones were set and blood was let.
Barber surgeons treated and extracted teeth, cut out gallstones and hangnails, set fractures, gave enemas and lanced abscesses. See how a patient’s urine is examined and try it yourself - if you dare!
The aftermath of a siege or battle was not a pleasant place to be. No ambulances, no paramedics, no doctors, no nurses, no life support system, no antibiotics and no painkillers . . . . . just the Barber Surgeon.
Contact Medieval World for a price and you will be pleasantly surprised at how affordable it is!
Expenses will be agreed at the time of booking so that there are no nasty surprises on the invoice.
The invoice can be delivered prior to the presentation or on the day. Payment would be appreciated on the day, but in any case within 7 days of the presentation unless there is prior agreement.
See the Home page for Terms and Conditions.
If he says anything like “this will hurt me more than it will you” - DO NOT believe him!
